Health and Wellness from the CEO Down

CEO Arnie Burchianti is so dedicated to spreading health and wellness through his home healthcare organization, Celtic Healthcare, that he undertook a rigorous CEO fitness challenge... and brought home the gold!

"As representatives of the healthcare industry, it is imperative that we embrace health and wellness.  That is easy to say, yet it can be hard to jumpstart.  Believe me, I know," says Burchianti.

He knows because he's living it.  Recently, Burchianti participated in the ChangeRx CEO Challenge, a 13-week fitness challenge along with 23 other CEOs in the Pittsburgh region.   Being chosen for this program resulted from his two-year search to find just the right third party to administer a Celtic corporate wellness program.  The CEO Challenge is simply a supercharged version of a typical company health and wellness program.

Back in April, Burchianti completed his pre-screening tests and was then put on an individualized nutrition and conditioning prescription designed by ChangeRx.  In addition to workouts, he had to meet with his ChangeRx Coach weekly.

"From the start, I could tell that Arnie was a potential first place winner," says Albert Eiler, ChangeRx President and Coach.  "After 13 weeks, his dedication was still as strong as ever - and he pulled off the victory."

As the leader of Celtic Healthcare, Burchianti feels that it is his duty to demonstrate and support the importance of the entire organization embracing health and wellness.  Through his affiliation with the ChangeRx CEO Challenge, Celtic Healthcare has the opportunity to participate in a Group Challenge Program, which will involve each and every interested Celtic team member.  Various phases of this program will be rolled out in 2009.

Currently, the members of Celtic Healthcare's executive team are in the process of undergoing the same pre-testing series that Burchianti completed in the spring.  This is Phase II of the overall company's health and wellness strategy.

"Through our first place in the CEO Challenge, we WON the opportunity to give Celtic Charities $7,500 and another $7,500 to other various charities of our choice.  We WON the reputation as a healthcare organization that lives what we preach.  We WON the motivation to continue this dedication to health and wellness.  And now we can live up to that during the executive team phase of this initiative," states Burchianti.

In addition to all the individual benefits of this program, participation will reduce health insurance costs by thousands of dollars.  Driving these costs down will benefit all involved, including Celtic team members and their families.

"The largest prize by far, though," says Burchianti. "... is a healthy lifestyle for us all."
